Glass City Center Brand Identity

Reimagining a Toledo Staple

In 2022, Toledo's SeaGate Convention Centre celebrated its 35th anniversary with a transformative $70 million renovation, emerging as the Glass City Center. This rebranding pays homage to Toledo's rich heritage as the "Glass Capital of the World," a title earned through its longstanding history in glass manufacturing.

As part of the creative team at Hanson Inc., I had the privilege of leading the development of the new visual identity for the Glass City Center. Our goal was to encapsulate modernity and sophistication, ensuring the center stands out as a premier venue for diverse events. The refreshed identity reflects the center's commitment to excellence, aligning with its state-of-the-art facilities, including the newly added 16,000-square-foot Grand Ballroom.

The Glass City Center now serves as a vibrant hub in downtown Toledo, attracting premier events and conferences while contributing to the city’s continued growth. With its revitalized identity and state-of-the-art facilities, it stands as a symbol of Toledo’s innovation, resilience, and deep-rooted connection to our history.

Capturing Glass

Glass has always been a challenge to distill into a static, iconic form—its essence lies in its fluidity, transparency, and ever-changing nature. The Glass City Center’s primary icon strikes a balance, embodying the material’s dual nature: sharp yet smooth, solid yet dynamic. Its circular motion is inspired by the mesmerizing rhythm of molten glass being shaped by a studio artist, capturing the artistry and craftsmanship at the heart of Toledo’s glassmaking legacy.

Let’s Make Something.
